Special in many ways
One could say it was the contract that started it all or at least gave us the opportunity to put a name on what we love doing: telling compelling, original stories. Rogers Sportsnet needed ten short length features, each telling a different, CHL specific story and it was quite a task. Between scheduling, travel, script writing, approvals and shooting, our crew worked hard and it showed in the finished product.
About halfway through shooting these features, we began preproduction for our feature on Niagara Icedogs standout Josh Ho-Sang. What our research found was quite a bit of polarizing opinions and very similar “traditional media” viewpoints. We knew immediately that we had an opportunity to tell his story in a way that has yet to be afforded to him and his loved ones; and we were very excited to take it on. Now more than ever before, athletes of all levels are put in a bigger and brighter spotlight at an earlier age and with public opinion holding so much sway in professional sports, we relished the chance to tell Josh’s story in a way that better reflected him and what he’s like from those that know him best and work closest to him. At the end of the day, players are still people and there’s a tendency to overlook that fact, especially of aspiring and professional athletes alike. We’re very proud of how this feature turned out and even happier with the positive feedback we received from Josh and his family about the end result.
